DiscoNature is a nature inspired multimedia entertainment duo, musician/performer Joe Reeve aka JoeIsElvis and artist Kaoru Blackstone with her 14 years experience of developing public engagement programmes at the Natural History Museum in London. 
 
DiscoNature believes the power of laughter can help inspiring people about nature and raising awareness of wildlife conservation and other environmental matters. DiscoNature is on a mission to power people who stand out for nature and our harmonious world, through music, dance and comedy.
 
There are daytime events for families and adult-only alternative cabaret/ club nights with different themes – e.g. animal behaviour, sexual nature, forensic science, space, biomimetics, prehistoric life, deadly nature, fungi, cat vs dog, ocean life, climate change and more…
 
During the lockdown, they have focused on making music and short films which are shown on YouTube and Instagram. They are looking forward to doing many more interactive shows, dance party/club nights, music&film production, publications and developing learning resources for schools and early years providers, workshops and festivals. Commissions and tailored events are welcomed, too.

Dance in a Kaleidoscope 

where do you wanna go?

My lifelong obsessive love of a kaleidoscope inspired me to digitally capture my performance art. Basically, I’m trapped inside a kaleidoscope dancing around.

In my childhood, I often spent much more time on taking things apart or dissecting things rather than assembling things. It gives you a freedom as you don’t need to follow any instruction, but also super exciting to discover the whole new world inside and sophisticated mechanisms behind the thing. Kaleidoscope was one of the things I’ve explored inside.

Why I love a kaleidoscope so much? It starts with simple bits and turns into something very complex, beautiful and otherworld-like.

The process of ‘kaleidoscoping me’ is as much as exciting as the final work. It’s partially predictable and can be manipulated manually when I act in front of a camera and also by space installation. Yet, at the same, it is unpredictable, spontaneous and adventurous, as I make decisions on which way to go throughout the process like going on a long mystery journey… It gives me the whole loads of surprises and joys til the end.

As a surrealism artist, I found the natural world and the reality of what’s going on there are more surreal than any made-up scenaries or fantasy worlds…

After years of working on manual cut-out art, I have finally started exploring digital manipulation to express my emotion, ideas and voice around wildlife and environment crisis.
